Natural dye for Easter eggs - recipe (including photos)

This year we tried to dye the eggs in a natural fashion, without using the food colorants sold in supermarkets.

Ingredients:
  • 4 small beetroots
  • 3 spoons of olive oil
  • 2 liters of water
  • 2 spoons of vinegar
  • 15 eggs

Clean and cut the beetroots. Boil them for 30 minutes. Wash the eggs with dish detergent.
Add the vinegar and the eggs and boil them for another 20 minutes.

Set the pot aside, but leave the eggs in the pot with coloured water until the eggs get the color you want (you can even let them overnight .

The final result should have been red, but ... probably I should have bought white eggs instead of brown :)

Clean every egg with a piece of soft cloth moist in the olive oil (so that the eggs are shiny).

We tried also with the coffee ... it was the same color in the end.

If you want, you can also use:
- red onions
- blackberries and blueberries (for a purple result)

 Ingredients:
  • 300-400 grams of berries, or the peel of 6 red onions
  • 500 grams of water
  • 1 spoon with vinegar

Let the fruits (or the onion peel) boil for 1 hour at slow fire.

Remove the fruits, add 1 spoon with vinegar and put the eggs (previously brought at room temperature) in the pot.

Let them boil for 20 minutes at slow fire.

Enjoy!
