Lots and lots of food. A good variety of souvenirs as well.

All in all, everything your heart could desire from a Christmas market.

Trip to Sucevita Monastery, Bucovina, Romania

We were the only tourists on a winter Sunday.

There was a nun guarding the church, more concerned with continuing her conversation on her mobile, then to answer our question.

Apple crumble with vanilla sauce

Ingredients for the apple crumble:
  • 600 grams of apples
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 100 grams of flour

Put the composition over a pot with boiling water and keep steering until starts thickens.
Remove from the fire and let it cool for a few minutes.

Add the butter and mix until melted.

Trip to Voronet Monastery, Bucovina, Romania

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage group of Moldavian monasteries, known for its (former) intense blue.

The only monastery where you can also find about 20 shops selling local souvenirs.

Christmas Market 2016 in Rathausplatz, Wien, Austria

Rather disappointing: a lot of Chinese objects on sale and food ready made.

Try the other market places in town and you will have at least something warm to eat, because in Rathausplatz the quality of food is far from decent.

Wien, Austria in the Christmas mood

The city is lovely all year round, but in the winter time is wonderful.
