DVD rental in Luxembourg City

In Auchan Kirchberg, at -1 parking level, there are automatic DVD rental machines.

Prices are really competitive: EUR 4 for 24 hours and EUR 5 for 48 hours. One can also rent PS2 games at the same prices (or for a longer period: EUR 9 for 5 days).

The procedure is simple: you have to order a personalised card, for which you will pay a one time fee of EUR 6. The minimum starting credit on the card is EUR 24, so that means that when ordering the card you´ll have to pay EUR 30.

The cards can be picked up at the Client Service desks in Auchan.

Cards can be recharged with cash at the automatic DVD kiosks.

Strange pricing policy in Auchan Luxembourg

While browsing through this week's promotion brochure from Auchan, we came across this "offer":

Obviously something went wrong in the calculation made by Auchan's sales people: why would somebody pay EUR 17 for a DVD?

No wonder a lot of people prefer to download movies illegally. EUR 17 for a movie which was released half a year ago is outrageous.

This is exactly the same price for 2 tickets at Utopolis, where one can have a much better viewing experince.

Not to mention the much cheaper alternative of renting the DVD in the same Auchan complex for only EUR 5 per 48 hours.
