At least once a month one can read an article in either Point24 or L'Essentiel about German residents caught with huge piles of cash crossing the border at Wasserbillig on the highway to Trier.
The "luck" or "intelligence" of German police is really mind-blowing. Or there might be another explanation. Could there be that the law enforcement people secretly scan the e-mails and phone calls and the use of certain tag words will be automatically detected and that communication reviewed by someone? Sounds like a Hollywood movie, but could it be?
Or maybe they have moles in the main banks in Luxembourg and the big fish easily fall in the net? Who knows?
On the other hand, we do not understand the lack of precaution of the culprits: why drive in your car with suspicious plate numbers (e.g. if you have a car registered in Hamburg, it can be easily spotted in this area) with that pile of cash in hand? Why, for example, they do not leave their car in Trier and then take the bus or train to Luxembourg and back? Or why take the highway, instead of the national road?
One could also wonder: why do you need cash? Are you going to stay with hundreds of thousands of EUR in the house? Is that smart? If you need to buy big ticket items, simply come to Luxembourg a couple of times per year, instruct the bank to make the payments and then go back home.
And the list of arguments could go on.
Or simpler, pay your taxes in Germany and then you do not have to worry about a thing.
