The 2012 edition of the Diekirch carnaval (cavalcade) will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2012:

 The show will start at 14:30 and the entrance fee is Eur 6 per person.

The 2011 edition of the Esch-sur-Alzette carnaval (cavalcade) will take place on Sunday, March 27, 2011.

The cortege will start at 14:30 from Place Victor Hugo.

2011 Diekirch carnaval (cavalcade) on March 06

Now that the Christmas is over, we are already thinking about the traditional carnavals that are taking place towards the end of winter / beginning of spring.

The 2011 edition of the Diekirch carnaval (cavalcade) will take place on Sunday, March 06, 2011.

The cortege is planned to start at 14:30 from route de Gilsdorf.


The entrance to the carnival will cost EUR 6 per adult person (similar to last year).

Carnavals in Remich and Petange on Sunday, March 14, 2010

The last carnavals in Luxembourg will take place this Sunday, March 14, 2010, as follows:

• in Remich, starting from 14:30. Greedy organisers ask EUR 5/person to attend, so better choose the second option below

• in Petange, starting from 15:10. Free of charge

Disrespectful carnaval organisers in Esch

Yesterday we went to Esch-sur-Alzette to watch the carnaval, which was supposed to start at 14:30:

However, we waited until 15:15 and there was no sign that the festivities were going to start anytime soon.

And there were only 2 degrees Celsius outside.

And this is not a singular mistake, as 2 years ago the same thing happened, but the novelty factor made us wait in the cold then.

We would like to share with the Esch carnaval organisers the beautiful song we were listening to our MP3 player while waiting in the cold:

Greedy carnaval organisers in Luxembourg

What surprised us in relation to the carnavals in Luxembourg was that the organisers charged a fee for the simple spectators.

The ones in Schifflange charged EUR 5/person, in Esch-sur-Alzette will ask EUR 5/person and the ones in Diekirch asked EUR 6/person (well they asked, but with a little bit of initiative one could enter the parade without paying).

We find this policy to be inappropriate (to say the least), as carnavals would be nothing without the spectators.

Imagine the cortege of Diekirch passing through the empty streets: what good would that be?
Would they still organise the carnaval if no one would be attending it?

These carnavals are popular celebrations and the spectators have as much importance as the cortege.

The 2010 Diekirch carnaval was really lively and entertaining.

Despite the temperatures below zero and the fact that the carnaval was held the same day as St. Valentine, there were a lot of people, free candies and free beer :)
