40 Martyrs' day - Mucenici - the Moldavian recipe (including photos)

  • 500 grams of flour
  • 8 spoons of honey
  • 20 grams of fresh east
  • 150 milligrams of warm milk
  • 70 grams of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • salt
  • zest from 1 lemon
  • 200 grams of crushed walnuts

Mix 130 ml of warm milk with 1 egg and an additional one egg white, with the melted butter, 6 spoons of honey, the salt and the zest from the lemon.

In a bowl mix 10 ml of milk with the east.

Add the east over the composition and mix.
Add the flour and mix well.
Le the dough rest for 1 hour.

Make little chains from the dough like in the photos below.

Make a circle and rotate it to take the form of the number 8.

Mix the remaining egg yolk with the remaining milk and spread it over each piece of dough. Let the martyrs rest for 30 minutes in a warm place.
Put it in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes.

After the martyrs are ready spread the remaining honey on top.
Spread over the honey the crushed walnuts.

Enjoy them as such or with a coup of milk.
