No Buergbrennen in Luxembourg Ville in 2013

Apparently due to the renovation works concerning the Pont Adolf bridge and other works concerning the canalization of the area , the traditional Buergbrennen will be cancelled this year (and who knows, possible for the years to come).

2012 Buergbrennen in Luxembourg City, Sunday, February 26

This year, the Buergbrennen in Luxembourg City will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012 in the vallee de la Petrusse (the valley beneath the Adolphe bridge going all the way to the Grund).

As usual, the stands of food and drinks will be open as from midday on Sunday, with the big celebration starting at dusk (the fire will be lit around 19:00).

2011 Buergbrennen, Luxembourg Ville - photos and videos

This year we took part for the first time at this traditional celebration.

A pretty big crowd attended (for Luxembourg standards). At the end, we concluded that it is a really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon (barbecue, drinks, acquaintances, etc.)

Traditional Buergbrennen in Luxembourg City, Sunday, February 21, 2010

Buergbrennen is on old Luxembourg tradition, marking the transition from winter to spring.

Apart from being an occasion for celebration (including the very tasty grilled sausages accompanied by some mulled wine), this tradition is mostly characterized by the burning of a huge wooden cross at the end of the day:

Small stands of food and drinks will be open as from midday on Sunday, with the big celebration starting at 19:00.
